Lillehammer – Storhamar 4-6 (3-3, 0-1, 1-2)
A crazy first period in the second leg of the two-game Christmas rivalry ended up 3-3. The hosts came out hard and netted twice before Storhamar answered with three straight. Then Lillehammer scored a few seconds before the break to take it back on level terms after the first twenty. The period itself was an emotional roller coaster for the fans, and the teams each had their ten minute spell in which they had the run of play.
Storhamar were a notch better in the second act and deserved to take a one goal lead into the third. The goal was nicely set up by Phil Marinaccio who fed Mikael Zettergren through the blue paint on the far side.
In the third period everybody waited for the home team to put on some pressure, but it never came. In stead the Yellows played solid in D and kept the red men on the outside. A powerplay goal 6 minutes before the buzzer made it a two goal game, and with a two minute 5 against 3 poweplay just after that it looked like the game would be killed off. But the powerplay was quite ineffective, so the game was still on.
Lillehammer managed to lure one in two minutes before the end, a goal that gave them a huge boost down the stretch. But in stead of the home team feeding off the buzz, Steffen Thoresen finished it off with an emptynetter a minute before the horn.
Storhamar’s goals were scored by Josh Nicholls, Jimmy Andersson, Steffen Thoresen 2, Mikael Zettergren and Hampus Gustafsson. Lillehammer’s scorers were Joey Benik, Stephan Vigier, Simen Thoresen and Brett Cameron.
