Stavanger Oilers – Storhamar 0-2 (0-1, 0-0, 0-1)
Storhamar impressed by taking all three points in a very difficult game in Stavanger. The Yellows already have many injuries in the roster, and when newcomer and defenceman Kenney Morrison had yo leave the ice after his first shift, and later forward Phil Marinaccio fell into the boards to be carried out on a stretcher, the challenge seemed even harder. But the visitors played a very solid game in defence, held the hosts on the outside for most of it and could celebrate a huge three points at the final buzzer.
Kjetil Martinsen opened up the scoring after 17 seconds of the first frame with a nice wrister, a goal that would be the only one of the game until Jimmy Andersson scored an emptynetter a minute before the end of the third. In between the goals Storhamar had most of the scoring chances, especially Josh Nicholls had a few and could have doubled the lead on several occasions. But Henrik Holm in net stood tall to deny Nicholls and everybody else who challenged him. At the other end of the ice Oskar Östlund also had his fair share of work to do, and he was perfect all night long to get his shutout. Closest to beating him came Josh Soares who missed an empty net backhander from the low crease during a powerplay, but his shot ended up a few inches on the wrong side of the plumbing.
