Sparta Warriors – Storhamar 4-1 (0-0, 2-1, 2-0)
Sparta won this top flight battle quite fairly. Both teams had lots of scratches from the roster, but the home team’s 1st line with Niklas Roest, Tommy Kristiansen and Kyle Osterberg was intact and stole the show.
The first period ended scoreless and was a scrappy affair. Neither team managed to put on some real pressure and both goalies took care of the few dangers that arose.
Troy Rutkowski broke the deadlock early in the second period with a wrist shot from the crease, and a couple of minutes later Tommy Kristiansen doubled the lead from the backdoor when goalie Oskar Östlund fed him with a rebounder straight on the tape. Martin Rønnild managed to cut the lead in half in the final minute of the period when he went around the D and beat Samuel Ward on the far side.
Kristiansen sent the hosts back to a two goal lead when he went top shelf on a breakaway five minutes into the third act, nicely fed on the doorstep by Kyle Osterberg. Half way into it the same duo could have made it four on a similar chance, but this time Östlund made a huge slide save to keep his team in it. But it didn’t matter much, cause the Warriors had no trouble keeping the Yellows out of the dangerous areas during the final minutes of the game. Storhamar’s goalie was pulled and some pressure was put on, but Ward was never really challenged. 30 seconds before the end Niklas Roest killed it all by an easy emptynetter to sement Sparta’s win.
